We are the Pacific Northwest division of The Definiens Project, a non profit chamber music organization based out of Los Angeles.
Our programs strive to transcend the stereotype of classical music as an exclusive art form reserved for the experienced, “educated” and upper classes. We passionately believe that music, regardless of genre, belongs to everyone. Our primary strategy in reaching our mission is to bring classical music to the public. We offer fun, interactive, and inventive classical music concerts in intimate, easy to access, community settings such as libraries, parks, recreation centers, art centers and churches.
One of our main goals is to create programs and performances which inspire active art appreciation. The world of classical music too often expects audiences to enjoy classical music simply because “they should.” Definiens takes the view that appreciation hinges on understanding, and that understanding requires one to be involved – to interact with art intellectually and emotionally. That cannot happen at a distance.
